Jo Bragg grew up on a dairy farm in North West Tasmania: this helped develop a hard work ethic as well as a sense of adventure. After working in the Property Management Department of a real estate agency for a decade, Jo completed a Bachelor of Laws with Honours at the University of Tasmania in 2009 and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Tasmania in 2010. She was admitted to the Supreme Court of Tasmania as an Australian Lawyer in August 2010 and to the High Court of Australia in September 2010.
Jo has practiced law in Tasmania since 2010, including at a major Hobart law firm. She has a wide range of practice experience in commercial law, property law, employment law, family law, and wills and estates as well as experience in criminal law matters and civil litigation. Jo continues to work in a wide range of legal areas, however, is focusing on family law and has been actively practicing in this area for the past 5 years. This, along with further study, has allowed her to become an experienced family lawyer in parenting, property and divorce matters.
Jo recently obtained a Masters of Laws (Applied Law) in Family Law and received the Sandra Paul Memorial Prize for the best graduating student in the Masters of Laws (Family Law) program. She is on the executive of the Family Law Practitioners Association of Tasmania and is a member of the Family Law section of the Law Council of Australia. Jo places high importance on the ability to continually learn and be challenged: this has helped her gain high level skills and knowledge in the family law practice area.
Jo uses a client focused approach when assessing her client’s needs and assisting them with the problem or project currently before them. Her approach is to listen, formulate options to assist her clients choose their best path forward and then assist with progress of their matter in a timely manner. Jo focuses on providing her clients with high level advice and practical solutions that suit the particular circumstances they are facing.
Jo lives with her husband and family in North West Tasmania and enjoys reading, running, cooking, travelling and spending time with her family. After not being able to run the entire 1500m event at school, she started running later in life and completed 2 half marathons in 2019 including at the Melbourne Marathon Festival. Jo has the character trait of ‘determination’, which allows her to push through and complete matters and goals even when facing adversity.
